Latin American and Caribbean Seminar
Partnerships for a New Era
Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
June 1 - 4, 2004 o Santiago, Chile

The Conference of Non Governmental Organizations (CONGO) and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean organized a seminar in Santiago, Chile, June 1-4, 2004, to present Millennium Goals and discuss ways to implement them by 2015.

1- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;
2- Achieve universal primary education;
3- Promote gender equality and empower women;
4- Reduce child mortality;
5- Improve maternal health;
6- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases;
7- Ensure environmental sustainability and
8- Develop a global partnership for development.

There is still much to be accomplished in all the countries in Latin America: most of them are still in extreme poverty, that is, with insufficient food and revenues per capita under a US dollar a day.

75 agencies and NGOs participated in the conference. We were given a very warm welcome, thanks to CONGO President of the Board Mrs. Renate Bloem, New York Representative Mrs. Leslie Wright, but also our dear Chilean friends!
